Several weeks ago, a poll was set up to allow discussion and voting on a community issue. The admins and moderators wanted input from box users on how best to handle warnings and the public dissemination of their application.
While none of us enjoy giving or receiving warnings, there is a general understanding of how they work to maintain the sense of civility that we have all come to expect from this place. The primary question up for discussion was whether or not warnings should be visible once given. The majority voted that warnings should be visible.
As always, warnings are given out at the discretion of the mods and admins, working as a group. Warnings will only be presented after all other reasonable attempts have been made to deal with specific situations. (In certain circumstances, the mods reserve the right to accelerate actions. . .such as in the case of obvious trolls.) The ‘three strikes and you’re out’ guideline that was present on the previous soapbox will continue to be the norm. Upon receiving a first warning, a ‘1warning’ tag will be added to the user’s avatar pane. Upon receiving
a second warning, a ‘2warning’ will appear in that area. A third warning will constitute possible user and IP banning from the site. Warnings will remain in effect for three months from the time they are issued. Excessive warnings within a twelve month period may incur further action from the mods.
All discussion concerning warnings will be kept in the strictest of confidence between mods and the specific user. In general so far, it hasn't been necessary to consider many warnings. Thanks for continuing to maintain a respectful and enjoyable place to hang out.
